deceptive means (by the media)
the night of October 30, 1938, hundreds of thousands of Americans were terrorized by a radio broadcast of the CBS described the invasion of Martians. Its architect was Orson Welles, who staged The War of the worlds, the fantasy novel by Herbert Wells. The facts were reported as news, recounting the fall of meteorites later corresponded to the Martian ship containers defeat U.S. forces using a "heat ray" and poisonous gases. The introduction of the program explained that it was a dramatization of HG Wells's work. In minute 40 second message about the clarification appeared, followed by the third-person narration by Orson Welles, fifteen minutes after the general alarm the country, who came to think I was being invaded. Then described the episode as follows: "Long before the end of the program throughout the U.S., there were people praying, crying, fleeing frantically to not be killed by hand the Martians. Some ran for loved ones. Others phoned to say goodbye or alert friends ran to tell their neighbors, they sought information in the newsrooms of newspapers and radio stations, or to warn the ambulances and police patrol. At least six million people heard the broadcast and at least one million of them are scared or worried. " Listeners who tuned into the issue and did not hear the introduction thought it was a real news broadcast, which caused panic in the streets of New York (which presumably would have produced the reports.) The police station newsrooms were blocked by panicked calls from listeners and desperate trying to protect against gas attacks fictional Martians. The next day came the responsibilities and protests demanding an explanation, so that Orson Welles himself apologized for the Halloween joke, considered a joke by listeners. Mass hysteria demonstrated the power of influence of the media mass, and this curious episode also catapulted to the top of Welles's career.
Over time, the so called media has come to occupy a very important place in each of the world's societies and their systems politicians, more specifically, during the twentieth century with the emergence of globalization. We say misnamed because, in theory, communication there must be interaction between sender and receiver of the message, practically non-existent on television, radio, newspapers, etc. Of the Gutenberg printing press in times of Internet XXI century, the media have emerged as the most effective instrument to impose ideas. According
learn from history, we see that whoever manages the wealth of information and ideas of a society determines the course of it, and it is well known that the media are the companies who handle, process, manipulate, describe, point out, ignored and / or verify information about the events that happen (or not) in reality, so obvious influence on individuals, form their opinion on this or indeed, their preferences, consumption and lifestyles. By accessing information to which the mass media, people are forged an idea about the universe around them and the society they belong. The media, through vast resources, shape the perception people have of the social, political and economic situation in which they are embedded.
are many voices telling us today that the mainstream media have abandoned the position of the "fourth power" to become quite simply "the first power", which is not only power but is one that directly affects the determination of the other three.
It is clear that the actions of this power when it is exercised on the basis of corporate interest, devoid of ethical considerations inherent in the task of informing the public, determines a negative, not a government or its opponents, but themselves democratic institutions. The clumping of the major television networks, newspapers, radio and the Internet in a handful of corporations whether national or international, significantly accentuated the trend, being the owners of those corporations the virtual media "owners" of reality.
known in Argentina celebrated episodes of manipulation of information, it is evident falsehood of it no more and no less than reality. The famous "we're winning" proclaiming the magazines at the time of the Falklands War reveals how newspapers and magazines, functional power shift, distort reality if some power interests so require. Falsehood that quickly found their short legs lie with the sad outcome for our nation in the Falklands. Although, through a comprehensive comparison of the "truths" held daily by the various newspapers, we see that these truths are few, and sometimes different, we would not be far from perceiving certain political sectarianism in each of them.
us accept that total objectivity is impossible, as human beings we are subject to our values, systems of ideas, beliefs, etc. But it is not unreasonable to demand more fairness to the sector that day by day, minute by minute, conveys the reality from the scene to our radio, TV, PC, through its filters and interests, of course.
